Our Environmental / Ecological Program

Our diverse outdoor learning environment takes place in small groups of sixteen participants at the sanctuary, 5 days a week from 3:30 - 5:00, and is facilitated by two members of our team. Our program offers a combination of activities that invite curiosity, engage the ecological imagination, learn through play, and foster an ethics of care. The program runs from September 7 - October 31 and starts again March 1 - June 21, 2022.

"If we are to reach real peace in our world, we must begin with the children" Gandhi

Animal Assisted Learning
Our focus is learning about animal behaviour while developing empathy, healthy attachments, and mutual consent that fosters clear and effective communication, keen observation, and subtle listening to self and other. We teach the mechanics of positive reinforcement training methods. We also focus on animal conservation, protection and human-animal relationships.

Permaculture Practices
Bio-diversity is key in teaching kids how to create a thriving garden that benefits all of life. Diversity creates resilience! Our massive permaculture garden is the ideal learning environment that initiates essential conversations around food sovereignty; filled with food, pollinators and medicine plants, a landscape of creative possibility.

Ecological Principles
Exploring the laws of the universe weaves together ecological literacy and consciousness. How does nature support all of life? We explore the main principles through exploratory, experiential and hands on activities throughout the diverse eco systems at the eco wisdom sanctuary

Plant Knowledge
Forming relationships with our plant kin, understanding plant intelligence, learning how to make simple herbal remedies, wild crafting, designing, growing, tending, harvesting, preserving and seed saving.

Systems Thinking
From single cells to an entire galaxy, all things are connected through cooperative, complex relationships, no - thing is separate. Life is a continuum. Nature is our teacher. Learning about the web of life is foundational to our teaching model.

Sustainability & Local Resilience
Green consciousness begins with the family and focuses on social equity, economic viability, and environmental conservation. Our goal is to help you be successful in implementing changes towards a life sustaining society. The eco wisdom sanctuary is a developing model of a life sustaining homestead.

"If a young child has been  able in his play to give up his whole living being to the world around him/her, they will be able, in the serious tasks of later life, to devote themselves with confidence and power to the service of the world" Caroline von Heydebrand
